Nasarawa Governor Says ADC Not a Threat to APC

Date:

Abdullahi Sule has stated that the African Democratic Congress (ADC) does not pose a significant challenge to the All Progressives Congress (APC) ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Speaking on Politics Today, Sule noted that the APC currently governs 31 of Nigeria’s 36 states, suggesting the ruling party has little reason for concern.

“At one point, they said the PDP is the strongest opposition to our party, so now it is the ADC,” Sule said. “A party that controls 31 states can’t really be worried about another party that doesn’t control just one state.”

He added that political discourse often involves shifting narratives about which party poses the greatest threat, describing such “goalpost moving” as normal in politics.

In addition to commenting on political opposition, Sule expressed support for the implementation of state policing as a measure to address insecurity.

The governor highlighted that the idea has widespread backing among state governors, explaining that 35 out of 37 states agreed at the National Economic Council (NEC) level to pursue decentralized policing.

He noted that the process requires changes in federal law and approval from the National Assembly, as well as ratification by all state legislatures, which accounts for the ongoing delay.

Sule emphasized that Nasarawa State fully supports state policing, describing it as a practical solution to the country’s security challenges.

“Every state believes strongly in state policing, and Nasarawa is one of them,” he said, underscoring the commitment of state governments to strengthening local security mechanisms.
