Tinubu Arrives Lagos to Celebrate Eid-el-Fitr

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu arrived in Lagos early Friday following a two-day state visit to the United Kingdom, where he is scheduled to join Muslim faithful in celebrating Eid-el-Fitr. The President touched down at the Presidential Wing of the Murtala Mohammed International Airport at about 1:15 a.m.

He was received by top officials, including Lagos State Deputy Governor Femi Hamzat and Chief of Staff Femi Gbajabiamila. As part of his Eid programme, Tinubu is expected to observe prayers at the Dodan Barracks Eid ground and urged Muslims to uphold the values of piety, compassion, and unity beyond Ramadan.

During the visit to the UK, Tinubu held talks with Prime Minister Keir Starmer at Downing Street, where both countries agreed on a £746 million deal to refurbish key ports in Lagos. Discussions also covered trade, security, climate change, and broader global challenges.

The President described the visit—the first state visit by a Nigerian leader to the UK in 37 years—as significant in strengthening bilateral relations. He noted the long-standing institutional ties between both countries and reaffirmed Nigeria’s commitment to deeper cooperation.

Tinubu and First Lady Oluremi Tinubu were also hosted by King Charles III at Windsor Castle, where both nations reaffirmed shared goals of progress, partnership, and mutual respect. The visit featured ceremonial honours, including a guard of honour and a 42-gun salute.
