The Northern Youth Frontier has urged political leaders to demonstrate compassion and humanity in managing national affairs, following the Tinubu administration’s handling of Hajiya Ummah El-Rufai’s death, mother of former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai.
The former governor was temporarily released from the custody of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) to mourn and bury his mother according to Islamic traditions, as reported by DAILY POST. He has since returned to ICPC custody to continue facing trial.
In a statement, Saminu Turaki, North-West Coordinator of the Northern Youth Frontier, emphasized that Malam Nasir El-Rufai’s temporary release highlights the need for humane treatment that transcends political differences.
“The temporary release of Malam Nasir El-Rufai to attend his mother’s funeral is a sign that humane feelings should go beyond political differences,” Turaki said.
He further noted that the gesture underscores the importance of protecting personal rights and valuing family connections, particularly during difficult times. “Even in times of political conflict, the human experience of grief unites us all,” Turaki added.
The youth group called on leaders to continue exhibiting compassion and solidarity, emphasizing that true leadership is measured by the ability to support citizens during moments of hardship.
“Let this moment remind us how important it is for leaders to show compassion and to come together when people are hurting,” the statement concluded.
