NSCDC uncovers illegal bunkering hideout in A’Ibom

The Nigerian Civil Defense and Security Corps (NSCDC) has discovered an illegal oil sourcing and oil product adulteration site at Obo Ikot Ita, Nsit Ibom, Akwa Ibom.

The NSCDC commander in the state, Mr. Abidemi Majekodunmi, said during a raid on the site on Saturday that the illegal supply of oil continued to be detrimental to the nation’s economy.

He alleged that the owner of the facility, a certain Glory Amos, was up to his neck in illegal oil supply and product adulteration.

“We rolled the facilities following sustained intelligence and monitoring, all hands must be prepared to deal with this threat.

“What is happening in this facility not only sabotages the economy, it is also dangerous for human health,” he said.

The commander stated that the collateral implications of the illegal supply of oil on society could not be quantified.

”These activities and their resulting products can harm the environment, are dangerous to health and are harmful to our cars.

“We have to collectively join the campaign against this common enemy. Members of the public should support law enforcement with information,” he said.

Also speaking during the exercise, Ms. Okuma Ekpoudom, Regulatory Deputy Director of the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC), described the activities taking place at the site as unhealthy.

He said exhibits taken from the facility would be subjected to laboratory tests to determine the quality of the products.

“We joined the exercise at the invitation of the NSCDC. As an agency, we will continue to do our best to protect the health of the citizenry,” he said.

He commended the NSCDC for its show of diligence and commitment in combating illegal oil activities.
