The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has inaugurated a new State Working Committee (SWC) in Ebonyi State, with Hon. Chukwuma Igwe emerging as state chairman and Hon. Henry Ngonu as state secretary.
The new leadership was elected during a state congress held at the party’s secretariat along Abakaliki/Enugu Expressway in Abakaliki on Friday. The exercise attracted a large turnout of party members and stakeholders.
The congress was monitored by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), while security agencies maintained order throughout the process, which ended without any reported incidents.
Chairman of the seven-man congress committee, Barr. Ukpai Ukairo, said the party adopted a consensus approach in electing the new executives to minimise internal disputes. He commended party members in the state for their peaceful conduct and urged the new leadership to focus on repositioning the party ahead of the 2027 general elections.
In his remarks, the PDP Southeast National Vice Chairman, Hon. Chidiebere Goodluck Egwu, called on the newly inaugurated executives to work closely with party leaders and stakeholders to rebuild unity and strengthen grassroots mobilisation. He also urged them to prioritise the e-registration of members in line with provisions of the Electoral Act 2025.
Other members of the newly inaugurated SWC include Chief Chris Elechi Ngwuta as Deputy Chairman, Prince Kingsley Igwe as Treasurer, Barr. Okohue Nkaa as Legal Adviser, and Okoro Chukwudi Goodluck as Organising Secretary. The list also features Nnanna Emea Oji (Youth Leader), Mrs. Chinyere Nwele (Women Leader), Darlington Onwe (Publicity Secretary), and Emmanuel Uka Abraham (Financial Secretary), among others.
The inauguration marks a fresh attempt by the PDP in Ebonyi to reorganise its structure and regain political strength in the state ahead of upcoming electoral contests.
