Residents of Maiduguri were thrown into panic late Tuesday night following a suspected bomb explosion that shook parts of the city.
The blast, which occurred in a densely populated area, was said to have gone off at about 10:45 p.m., sending shockwaves across nearby communities. Witnesses reported hearing a loud bang, followed by confusion as people fled their homes in fear.
Sources within the Nigerian Police Force confirmed that security operatives were immediately deployed to the scene to cordon off the area and begin preliminary investigations. Emergency responders were also mobilised to assess the situation and provide assistance where needed.
Although details remain sketchy, local authorities have yet to confirm the number of casualties or the extent of damage caused by the explosion. However, residents say several buildings and vehicles within the vicinity may have been affected by the blast.
The incident has heightened security concerns in Maiduguri, a city that has previously experienced attacks linked to insurgent activities. Security agencies have urged residents to remain calm, stay vigilant, and report any suspicious movements as investigations continue.
