These efforts yielded results in the early hours of November 6, 2024, based on reliable intelligence, two suspects were apprehended at separate locations. The suspects, identified as Peter Samuel (M), Jeremiah Tiozinda (M) and Sunday Agbenke (M).

“Both individuals confessed to committing the crime. Additionally, the recovered Android phone was confirmed to belong to suspect Peter Samuel, who was planning to flee from the state. During interrogation, the suspects revealed that they disposed of the victim’s severed head in a nearby river. Efforts are currently underway to recover this evidence. The suspects will subsequently be arraigned in court.

“We would like to address certain misconceptions and misinformation that have been in circulation as regards this incident:

“Misidentification of Suspect and Incident of Mischief and Criminal Conspiracy: In a separate incident, an innocent individual, a farmer, was mistakenly targeted and pursued by villagers and motorcycle operators (Okada riders) who wrongly suspected him of his involvement in this crime. While this individual sought refuge at the Oke-Oyi Police Division, his vehicle, which was lawfully parked, was stoned and severely damaged by Yusuf Abdulkareem (male, 22), Jaiyeola Fatai (female, 40) and others at large. Both individuals have been apprehended and formally charged with Criminal Conspiracy, Disturbance of Public Peace, Causing Grievous Hurt, and Mischief. They will be arraigned in court accordingly.

“We want to emphasize that this farmer has no connection whatsoever to the ongoing homicide investigation. We strongly urge the public to refrain from engaging in hasty actions or disseminating unverified information, as these actions may endanger innocent lives and constitute serious infractions. Law enforcement agents will take decisive action against any individual or group engaging in vigilantism or causing public disorder.

“Misidentification of a Local Business Owner: Another rumor suggested the involvement of the owner of the popular eatery, Item7, in the homicide case. This is entirely false. The individual has no links to this incident, and spreading such baseless rumors about a reputable businessperson not only damages the individual’s hard-earned reputation but may also harm the livelihood of employees and affect customer trust in his businesses. The originator of this misinformation, Abdulwakeel Olajuwon (male, 36), circulated the false claim via his social media brand, Weaky TV.

“The spread of false information can have serious negative impacts on businesses, particularly those whose reputations are built on community trust. Such rumors can lead to unwarranted financial losses, jeopardize jobs, and unfairly tarnish the reputation of innocent individuals. Citizens are therefore reminded that deliberately spreading false information that disrupts public order or misleads an investigation is a grievous offense under Nigerian law. According to Section 24 of the Cybercrimes (Prohibition, Prevention, etc.) Act 2015, anyone who knowingly disseminates false information intending to incite or cause harm can face serious consequences, including fines and imprisonment. Abdulwakeel Olajuwon has been apprehended and will be arraigned in court to face charges for his role in spreading false information.

“This incident serves as a reminder that spreading unverified information, especially in a sensitive context, is not only irresponsible but also a serious offense with severe legal consequences. We remain committed to prosecuting any person found engaging in the spread of unfounded rumors or deliberately distorting facts to disrupt the investigation or public peace.

“Conclusively, I assure the public that every resource is being deployed to bring those responsible for this crime to justice and that all efforts will continue until investigation is concluded. We thank the community for their vigilance and cooperation, and we urge everyone to rely on verified information from law enforcement channels.”
