The Qatari Ministry of Interior has dismissed reports suggesting new visa restrictions for Nigerian passport holders.
A ministry official told BBC Pidgin on Wednesday that there are no limitations on Nigerians seeking to visit Qatar.
Social media claims had alleged that male Nigerians would be barred from entering the country unless travelling with family. The posts also stated that only women or families could apply, and applicants would need confirmed five-star hotel bookings and return tickets.
The reports cited frequent overstays by Nigerian travelers as the alleged reason for the restrictions.
However, Qatar’s official e-visa platform, Hayya, confirmed that the visa application process remains unchanged.
“There has been no suspension or changes to the current procedures. If any updates are to be made, they will be announced on our official platforms,” the statement said.
The clarification follows a surge in online misinformation regarding travel regulations affecting Nigerian visitors.
Qatar has seen increased visits from Nigerians in recent years, partly due to diplomatic tensions between Nigeria and the United Arab Emirates between 2021 and 2024, which had previously led to visa restrictions and suspended flights.
Authorities urged travelers to rely on official sources for visa information to avoid confusion.
The ministry reiterated that all Nigerian passport holders remain eligible to apply for visas under the existing procedures.
