The Oyo State Police Command has arrested six members of a suspected robbery gang that reportedly used tricycles to rob unsuspecting residents in Ibadan. The suspects were apprehended while hiding in a hotel in the 7UP/Academy area of the city following a coordinated operation by the Command Monitoring Unit based on credible intelligence.
DSP Olayinka Ayanlade, the police spokesperson, confirmed that the arrested suspects included five men and one woman: Kelvin Daniel, Idris Ramon, Christopher Solomon, Mohamed Telim, Taored Aderibigbe, and Adekunle Tolani. The gang is believed to have terrorized residents across the Ibadan metropolis.
During the raid, police recovered 18 mobile phones, one Opay ATM card, a National Identification Number (NIN) card, and the gang’s operational tricycle with registration number OYO SHK 508 QP. Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspects confessed to their involvement in multiple robberies in the city.
The police commended the public for providing timely and credible intelligence, which played a critical role in the success of the operation. They emphasized that community partnership remains essential in preventing and detecting crime across the state.
Investigations are ongoing, and all suspects are expected to be charged to court upon the conclusion of police inquiries. The command reiterated its commitment to ensuring the safety of lives and property in Oyo State and urged residents to continue supporting law enforcement with useful information.
