President of the Nigeria Olympic Committee (NOC), Habu Gumel, has praised the Super Eagles for their resilience and character in winning the bronze medal at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
Gumel gave the commendation in a statement issued on Tuesday by the NOC’s Public Relations Officer, Tony Nezianya, following Nigeria’s victory over Egypt in the third-place playoff.
He described the win against the Pharaohs as a clear demonstration of the team’s mental strength and growing maturity, particularly after their semi-final disappointment.
“The Super Eagles have once again become a source of national pride, displaying the famous ‘never-say-die’ Nigerian spirit against top African opposition,” Gumel said.
The NOC president noted that the team’s ability to rebound from a demanding semi-final loss and dominate the playoff match reflected renewed confidence and determination.
Gumel also commended the technical crew, attributing the team’s progress to the leadership of head coach Eric Chelle.
According to him, the Super Eagles have recorded significant improvement within a year, evolving from a goal-shy side into a more clinical and effective attacking team.
He added that Chelle’s influence has helped rebuild the squad into a disciplined and competitive unit capable of commanding respect on the continental stage.
Gumel said the bronze-medal finish reaffirmed Nigeria’s status as one of Africa’s leading football nations and provided a strong foundation for future competitions.
