Suspected Bandits Kill 15 in Sokoto Village Attack

Date:

At least 15 people were killed on Wednesday in an attack by suspected bandits in Kwallajiya village, Tangaza Local Government Area of Sokoto State.

Local sources said the assailants, believed to be members of the Lakurawa gang, stormed the village in the afternoon and opened fire on residents.

The victims were buried later that evening in accordance with Islamic rites.

A community member, speaking anonymously, condemned the repeated attacks, attributing the rising insecurity to alleged collaboration between the bandits and informants within the affected communities.

He urged residents to work closely with security agencies to help identify and eliminate the threats.

“It is very important that the people in the affected villages intensify efforts to cooperate with security agencies in order to curb the activities of the evil men in their areas,” he said.

Efforts to reach the Sokoto State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ahmed Rufai, for official comment were unsuccessful at the time of filing this report.

Sokoto State, like many parts of northwestern Nigeria, has been plagued by repeated attacks from armed groups targeting rural communities.

Security agencies have yet to issue an official statement regarding the latest incident.
