The police on Thursday arraigned 19-year-old Patience John in an Ogudu Magistrates’ Court, for allegedly pouring hot water on her friend due to jealousy.

The Prosecutor, ASP Rita Momoh, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on Oct. 3, at Ewusu Street, Araromi Quarters, Ajelogo in Mile 12, Lagos.

She said that the defendant unlawfully injured her friend, Miss Blessing Orgi, with the hot water.

Momoh alleged that the defendant attacked the complainant after she was seen with her boyfriend.

The prosecutor said that the complainant was in an undisclosed hospital receiving medical attention for burns.

The offence, she said, contravened Section 245 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015, which stipulates seven years imprisonment for causing grievous harm.

John, who resides at Mile 12, Lagos, entered a `not-guilty’ plea to the one- count charge of grievous harm brought against her.

The Magistrate, Mrs O.A Ajayi, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N20,000, with one surety in like sum.

Ajayi said that the surety should be gainfully employed and show evidence of tax payment to the Lagos State Government for two years.

She adjourned the case until Nov. 11 for mention.
