Nigerian singer Terry G has responded to long-standing accusations that he hijacked the hit song Pass Me Your Love from fellow artist AY.Com, calling the claims baseless and misinformed.
The controversy stems from Terry G’s frequent performances of the track—which originally featured him as a guest artist—at concerts and events. Critics have accused him of overshadowing AY.Com and appropriating the song as his own.
In a recent post on his X (formerly Twitter) handle, Terry G dismissed the allegations, describing them as “pure ignorance” and asserting his right to perform any song he contributed to.
“To those saying I stole Pass Me Your Love from AY.Com—that’s pure ignorance. So I don’t have the right to perform a song I collaborated on?” he wrote. “Your favourite artists do it all the time, but when it’s me, it becomes a problem. Hypocrisy at its finest.”
Terry G clarified that he never claimed ownership of the song and did not include it in any of his albums. “It was never about ownership; it was about collaboration,” he stated.
He also suggested that the controversy negatively impacted AY.Com’s career more than his own. “Some of you ruined AY’s moment with your noise, not me,” he said.
Terry G concluded by saying the criticism has not dimmed his career. “As for my shine, nobody can block it. You no reach,” he added.
The song Pass Me Your Love was a major hit in the late 2000s and helped both artists gain widespread recognition in the Nigerian music scene.
Neither AY.Com nor his management has publicly responded to Terry G’s recent comments.
