The Minister of Federal Capital Territory ( FCT), Nyesom Wike has disclosed that the Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu-led administration would build 10,000 units of low cost houses for the poor in Abuja.

This he said would help to reduce the housing deficit in the FCT, while providing affordable housing.

Wike, while speaking at the sectoral Ministerial press briefing organised by the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Alhaji Mohammed Idris, to usher in the May 29 democracy day and also to give other Ministers the opportunity to reveal what has been achieved so far in their various ministries, also said that property owners who deviate from building what their allocated plot is meant for, would be sanctioned if they do not make amends.

Tinubu’s Administration To Build 10,000 Unit Houses For The Poor

The Minister of Federal Capital Territory ( FCT), Nyesom Wike has disclosed that the Tinubu led administration would build 10,000 units of low cost houses for the poor in Abuja.

According to Wike, the 10,000 housing unit project would be captured in the 2025 budget, under President Tinubu’s “Renewed Hope Cities” project to provide the needed housing infrastructure which would be allocated to people who could not afford to build.

The Minister frowned at the situation where  developers ask for 300 hectares of land to build 20,000 houses and after getting the allocation, they would not build the houses but allocate the land to people to make money, noting that land allocation is one of the most difficult problems in the FCT land administration, and that the department was infested with corruption.

“As I speak to you as a minister, it is one area that I have been battling with. But, I will defeat them.

“Even to make land affordable for people to build houses, which is what we are supposed to do, is a problem.

“We cannot allow this. It is fraud and then the person brings politics and religion to the issue.

“But we are equal to the task. Just be convinced that we have the political will to implement and do what is right.” he said.
