UNICEF trains stakeholders on strategies against child violence in Gombe

The United Nation Children’s Fund (UNICEF) has embarked on training some stakeholders on how to end violence against children in Gombe state.

Ms Ladi Alabi, the Child Protection Specialist, UNICEF Bauchi Field
Office, in an address on Monday told participants that there was an
urgent need for them to understand issues that affected children in
the state.

She that the training would provide them the opportunity to adopt
models that would ensure violence against children became history in the state.

”One of the cardinal objectives of this training is to strengthen the
understanding of key stakeholders on child protection.

”It will also enhance coordination and cooperation between the state
and other stakeholders in the delivery of child protection service in
the state.

”It will increase the understanding of each sector’s role in promoting
and responding to violence against children in this state,” she said.

Alabi said that the training was to enhance the capabilities of key
sectors to effectively plan for the strengthening of child protection
system for the implementation of the child rights law in the state.

In an address, Alhaji Mohammed Adamu, Permanent Secretary, Ministry for Women Affairs and Social Development in Gombe said the training was timely.

”This training is apt, because as a state we are determined to give
our children and our children’s children a better living; a better and
more conducive environment,” he said.

He urged participants to pay rapt attention in the course of the
training, so as to enable children in the state to be free of any form
of violence.

The five-day training has traditional rulers, community leaders,
religious leaders, legal practitioners and others participants in attendance.

The programme was funded by UNICEF, European Union and the United State Agency for International Development.
