A women leader from a community repeatedly attacked in Barkin Ladi Local Government Area of Plateau State has alleged that armed Fulani militants have been raping women and young girls on their farms.
She made the claim while speaking to a fact-finding delegation from Equipping the Persecuted, an international organization that supports victims of religious persecution.
According to her, women in the affected communities have suffered severe abuse and humiliation during and after the attacks.
“Our women have been going through a lot of humiliation at the hands of Fulani herdsmen who would waylay them on their farms, gang-rape them, and kill anyone who dares to resist,” she said.
She added that the communities have become unsafe, with residents living in fear and unable to carry out basic daily activities. “We can’t sleep in our homes, we can’t go to the farm, we can’t work for our daily bread. They hunt us like animals,” she lamented.
The women leader further alleged that both adult women and young girls have been victims of rape, saying her group has documented numerous cases of assault and killings.
“We have the details of women and girls who have been raped. There are so many. We have the data of the women they have raped and those they have killed,” she said.
She accused the government of neglecting the affected communities, saying residents have been left without adequate protection. “We have a government in this state, but we have been left vulnerable,” she added.
