Dino Melaye Mocked for Joining Opposition Coalition

Lere Olayinka, the Senior Special Assistant on Public Communications and Social Media to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has criticized former Kogi West Senator Dino Melaye over his recent defection to the African Democratic Congress (ADC), part of an emerging opposition coalition.

Olayinka, speaking in an interview with Channels Television, dismissed Melaye and others who left the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as “bad eggs,” claiming their exit would benefit the party.

“Let the bad eggs leave. For instance, one of those bad eggs telling us that they are doing coalition is from Kogi State,” Olayinka said.

He accused Melaye of lacking seriousness during the last Kogi governorship election, where he was the PDP’s candidate, alleging that Melaye remained indoors creating social media content rather than participating actively in the electoral process.

“He was a candidate of the PDP and on the day of the election, he was in his house busy doing social media content. He did not even come out to vote. Somebody who did not vote for himself in his own election is the one talking about coalition. I’m talking about Dino Melaye,” Olayinka stated.

Melaye, who recently announced his defection to the ADC, has positioned himself as part of a broader coalition aimed at challenging the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in future elections.

His defection has sparked reactions within political circles, particularly among PDP loyalists who view the coalition move as opportunistic.
