A 27-year-old Lagos-based hairstylist, identified simply as Fatima, has reportedly lost six teeth after being physically assaulted by her boyfriend during a domestic dispute in the Ebute Meta area of the state.
The incident, which occurred on Saturday, July 12, was confirmed by a family source who spoke to PUNCH Metro on condition of anonymity. According to the source, the altercation began as a heated exchange before escalating into a violent attack.
“A neighbour called to inform us that Fatima was hospitalised. Initially, we didn’t know it was a case of domestic violence until we sent someone to check on her,” the relative said. “When we saw her photo, we realised the severity. She had lost multiple teeth.”
Following the incident, a report was filed at the Denton Police Station, and the boyfriend was arrested. However, he was later released, allegedly at Fatima’s request.
A resident of the area, identified only as Adetunji, told PUNCH Metro that this was not the first case of abuse. “We’ve intervened before. She kept returning to him. This time, the assault was too severe to ignore, but even after police got involved, she pleaded for his release.”
Fatima, originally from Kwara State, is currently receiving medical care. A source close to the family disclosed she has been fitted with temporary dental support and is scheduled for surgery on August 15.
Attempts to reach Lagos State Police spokesperson, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, were unsuccessful as calls went unanswered and messages received no reply as of press time.
This latest case follows a similar report in February, when a 23-year-old man was arrested for allegedly beating his girlfriend to death in Alimosho, Lagos.
