A 35-year-old man identified as Yusuf Isah was tragically shot dead by armed bandits along the Isa–Shinkafi road in Sokoto State on Tuesday evening.
According to counter-insurgency expert Zagazola Makama, who shared the details via a post on X, the attackers are suspected to be loyalists of notorious bandit leader Bello Turji. The bandits reportedly blocked the highway around 5:30 p.m. and opened fire on moving vehicles.
Isah was fatally struck by a bullet during the ambush and died instantly.
Eyewitnesses told Makama that the gunmen stormed the area on motorcycles and began shooting indiscriminately, causing widespread panic among travelers.
Troops from Operation FANSAN YANMA swiftly responded to the distress call and engaged the bandits in a shootout, forcing them to retreat into the forest.
During the operation, security forces recovered a Canter truck and a motorcycle, believed to have been used by the fleeing bandits.
In response to the attack, military patrols have been intensified in the area to restore calm and protect commuters from further violence.
