As political tension continues to rise ahead of the November 8 governorship election in Anambra State, the candidate of the Action Alliance (AA), Chief Jeff Nweke, has raised concern over the increasing use of derogatory language among politicians.

In a strongly worded statement on Tuesday, Nweke cautioned that the trend of “legendary misspeaks” is not only divisive but also undermines the dignity of the political class.

Politics is a natural phenomenon. It’s part of who we are,” Nweke said. “But it must be used to build rather than to destroy. Politics should be a tool for positive influence, not a platform for character assassination.”

Backing a sentiment previously expressed by Governor Chukwuma Soludo, Nweke emphasized that politics is a vehicle for meaningful change, describing change as a “constant river” that sweeps away outdated methods and introduces fresh ideas.

“Old ways may not be entirely bad,” he noted, “but we must keep striving for better. Diverse strategies and ideas shouldn’t be mistaken for disunity—they represent innovation.”

Nweke also called on political players to elevate the tone of discourse and focus on policy-driven debates that will shape the future of Anambra positively.
