At least five people were injured in a traffic accident involving a PMS-laden fuel tanker and a commercial bus at Toyota Bus Stop, inward Oshodi, Lagos State.

The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) said the crash occurred on Thursday near The Guardian newspaper headquarters. The tanker, with registration number T28128LA, reportedly suffered sudden brake failure while at high speed and rammed into a fully loaded Volkswagen T4 bus, GGE 526 YG.

According to LASTMA spokesperson Adebayo Taofiq, officers carried out a swift and coordinated rescue, securing the scene and preventing further hazards. Three women, two men—including the bus driver—were rescued. One victim was taken to a nearby hospital by a passer-by, while the Lagos State Ambulance Service and LASEMA Rescue Unit conveyed others to different hospitals for treatment.

LASTMA Corps Marshal, Bakare-Oki, expressed sympathy to the victims and blamed the accident on disregard for speed limits and poor vehicle maintenance. He urged tanker operators to prioritise braking system integrity and implement continuous training for drivers, stressing that “the sanctity of human life must remain paramount in road transport operations.”
