Atiku’s EFCC Outburst Is Political Self-Pity, Says APC

Date:

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Lagos State has fired back at former Vice President Atiku Abubakar over his recent claim that the Presidency is weaponising the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to intimidate political opponents ahead of the 2027 general elections.

In a strongly worded statement issued on Monday, the party described Atiku’s allegation as “baseless, misleading, and politically motivated,” stressing that the EFCC operates independently, without interference from President Bola Ahmed Tinubu or the APC.

“Atiku’s attempt to discredit the EFCC is nothing but political mischief,” the statement read. “He is now undermining the same anti-corruption institutions he once claimed to support, all because of his desperation to remain politically relevant after repeated electoral defeats.”

The APC accused Atiku of hypocrisy, alleging that his comments were aimed at distracting Nigerians from “unresolved issues” in his public record. The party further insisted that it does not need to deploy “underhanded tactics” to win elections, boasting that its performance in governance will be enough to secure future victories.

“We urge Nigerians to ignore these baseless claims and focus on supporting the ongoing anti-corruption drive and the administration’s developmental agenda,” the party concluded.
