Operatives of the Akwa Ibom State Marine Police have arrested two men for alleged oil theft and illegal bunkering in the Okposo waterway, Mbo Local Government Area.
Police spokesperson DSP Timfon John said the suspects were apprehended at about 5:30 p.m. on August 2, 2025, after operatives, acting on credible intelligence, intercepted a large wooden boat suspected to be carrying stolen crude oil.
Two gunboats were deployed to the scene, where the vessel—believed to have been loaded from an oil pipeline weir head—was intercepted while sailing towards the Nigeria–Cameroon maritime border. The suspects and the recovered boat are now in custody, while investigations continue.
