A former lawmaker and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chieftain, USA Igwesi, says the performance of Governor Peter Mbah has secured him unanimous endorsement from stakeholders in Enugu East Senatorial Zone ahead of the 2027 governorship election.
Igwesi, who represented Nkanu East/West Federal Constituency, said leaders across political divides were impressed by Mbah’s record in just two years, describing him as a role model among Nigerian governors.
He noted that during the recent NBA Conference in Enugu, Senator Dino Melaye urged Mbah to organise training sessions for his counterparts nationwide, a testament to his growing national recognition. “Since his inauguration, Enugu has continually been in the news for good reasons and has become a destination of choice. His re-election is already a done deal,” Igwesi said.
The ex-lawmaker highlighted the governor’s investments in education and healthcare, including allocating 33 percent of the state budget to education, building 260 Smart Green Schools, and establishing 260 Primary Healthcare Centres with staff quarters across wards. He also commended Mbah for reviving dormant assets such as Hotel Presidential, Nike Lake, and Niger Gas, as well as introducing Enugu Air, 100 CNG buses, and five modern transport terminals.
According to Igwesi, Mbah has also enhanced security and is working to operationalise the international terminal of Akanu Ibiam Airport and a new cargo terminal to position Enugu as an aviation hub.
On Sunday, political leaders in Enugu East formally adopted Mbah as their sole candidate for 2027, declaring that “one good turn deserves another.”
