The Rivers State Police Command has cautioned against the growing trend of women collecting transport money from men and failing to show up for agreed meetings, describing the act as a criminal offence.
Police spokesperson Grace Iringe-Koko issued the warning in a viral video posted on X on Wednesday. She explained that such conduct amounts to fraud and is punishable under Nigerian law.
“Why will you collect money from a man without going to see him? It is a punishable offence. It is obtaining money under false pretence—419,” she said.
Iringe-Koko added that offenders risk arrest and prosecution if complaints are formally lodged with the police. She also advised the public to avoid engaging in deceitful financial transactions.
