El-Rufai Calls Tinubu’s Rule a Democratic Disgrace

Date:

Former Kaduna State governor Nasir El-Rufai has accused President Bola Tinubu of ruling like an authoritarian leader. He compared Tinubu’s style to Cameroon’s long-serving president, Paul Biya.

El-Rufai made these comments on Saturday when former Vice President Atiku Abubakar visited him in Kaduna. The visit came after El-Rufai was attacked by suspected APC thugs during the launch of the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

He said Tinubu’s government is “a disgrace to democracy” because it is centralising power instead of promoting federalism. El-Rufai warned that if Nigerians don’t vote Tinubu out in 2027, he might try to stay in power indefinitely, like Paul Biya.

El-Rufai praised Atiku as an experienced democratic leader, saying Nigerians are counting on him to unite the opposition and provide leadership.

Atiku, in his response, commended El-Rufai’s courage and urged opposition parties to work together to ensure Tinubu is voted out in 2027—through the ballot box.
