The Ohanaeze Youth Council (OYC) has condemned the recent arrests of Omoyele Sowore, Aloy Ejimakor, and Emmanuel Kanu, younger brother of detained IPOB leader Nnamdi Kanu, describing the development as a clear indication that Nigeria is drifting toward anarchy and political instability.
In a strongly worded statement signed by its National President, Comrade Igboayaka O. Igboayaka, and issued on Friday, the pan-Igbo youth organization accused the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu of “executive recklessness” and a “desperate attempt to silence voices of justice, opposition, and reason” ahead of the 2027 general elections.
According to the statement, the wave of intimidation, harassment, and alleged tribal victimization surrounding Kanu’s ongoing detention reflects “a total collapse of justice and governance” in Nigeria.
“The current state of the nation under President Tinubu’s leadership is precarious — like a ship on the verge of capsizing after being struck by a tornado,” the OYC declared.
The group alleged that on October 20, President Tinubu, through the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, ordered the arrest of Sowore, Ejimakor, Prince Emmanuel Kanu, Barrister Kingdom Nnamdi Okere, and several others during a #FreeNnamdiKanu protest at the Federal High Court in Abuja.
The protesters were reportedly arraigned before the Kuje Magistrate Court and remanded at the Kuje Correctional Centre.
The OYC called on President Tinubu to immediately order the release of all those arrested, warning that Nigeria risks sliding into a full-blown crisis if the government continues to “muzzle dissenting voices and promote selective justice.”
“The President must begin a genuine process of national healing and reconciliation to prevent a repeat of the Madagascar or Nepal crises in Nigeria,” Igboayaka urged.
The group further advised Tinubu to heed the growing international calls for Nnamdi Kanu’s unconditional release, stressing that continued detention of the IPOB leader represents selective justice against the Igbo people and threatens Nigeria’s fragile unity.
