Insecurity in Kwara: PDP Demands Urgent Summit

Date:

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has called for a National Security Summit involving all stakeholders to address the escalating insecurity in Nigeria, following deadly attacks in Woro Community, Kwara State. The party described the killings as a “painful reminder” of the heightened insecurity under the Bola Tinubu-led APC government.

PDP expressed condolences to the families of the victims, highlighting that warnings about the impending attack were reportedly available months in advance but ignored. The party criticized the government’s post-attack military deployment as weak, reactive, and unable to undo the trauma suffered by the community.

In response to the tragedy, PDP has demanded several immediate actions: the establishment of an independent investigation into security failures, deployment of emergency relief and medical care for survivors, and the convening of a National Security Summit to address systemic issues in national security.

The party also called for the strengthening of early warning systems, urging authorities to act on credible threats rather than respond after attacks occur. PDP emphasized the need for a “whole-of-society” approach, including intelligence sharing, the commencement of state police, and addressing root causes of terrorism and banditry through regional economic development.

Finally, PDP criticized the federal government for prioritizing politics over the protection of lives, warning that reactionary strategies are inadequate. The party stressed that the time for excuses is over and called for urgent, competent action to prevent further loss of life and ensure justice for affected communities.
