IPAC Demands Urgent Fix Over Electoral Act ‘Anomalies’

Date:

The Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC) has raised concerns over what it described as “anomalies” in Nigeria’s Electoral Act, warning that some provisions of the law do not serve the interests of Nigerians.

IPAC National Chairman, Yusuf Dantalle, made the remarks during an interview on the News Night programme on Arise News, stating that several irregularities earlier identified by political parties were ignored in the final version of the law.

Dantalle said IPAC had consulted widely with registered political parties during the review of the Electoral Act and aspects of the Constitution of Nigeria, compiling and harmonising their recommendations before submitting them to lawmakers.

According to him, the council forwarded the proposals to the National Assembly of Nigeria Joint Committee on Electoral Act amendments, but the suggestions were not reflected in the final amendments passed by the legislature.

He added that political parties had expected the amendment process to address existing gaps in the law and strengthen Nigeria’s electoral framework ahead of the 2027 general elections.
