Senator Seriake Dickson, representing Bayelsa West Senatorial District, has resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and joined the newly registered Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC).
Dickson, a former governor of Bayelsa State, announced his defection during a media briefing in Abuja on Thursday, citing irreconcilable differences and a deepening internal crisis within the PDP.
He said the party’s persistent leadership disputes had weakened its structure and reduced its ability to accommodate loyal members, adding that the once formidable “umbrella” had shrunk significantly.
The senator also lamented that the PDP had lost its voice on major national issues, arguing that the ongoing crisis had undermined its credibility as an opposition platform.
Dickson expressed confidence in the NDC, recently registered by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), describing it as a viable political alternative for Nigerians.
He called on citizens to identify with and register under the new party, saying it offers a fresh opportunity to reposition Nigeria’s political landscape and improve governance.
