Police Arrest Mastermind Behind Ebonyi Monarch’s Kidnapping and Killing

Date:

The Ebonyi State Police Command has arrested Nwazunku Stephen, the alleged mastermind behind the kidnapping and killing of the traditional ruler of Ndufu Alike Ikwo, Ezeogo Francis Igwe. Igwe was abducted last Sunday while on his way to church and later killed after his captors demanded a ransom.

The arrest followed sustained intelligence gathering and surveillance operations by the state’s Anti-Kidnapping Squad. One of the earlier suspects led police operatives to a hideout where weapons and other items, including an SMG rifle, a pump-action rifle, three locally made Beretta pistols, ammunition, a machete, a shovel, and assorted charms, were recovered.

Earlier, nine suspects had been arrested in connection with the incident, including the state publicity secretary of the All Progressives Congress. The police revealed that the suspects had confessed to killing the monarch on March 2 and volunteered to lead officers to their hideout to recover the monarch’s remains.

The Police Public Relations Officer, Joshua Ukandu, stated that Nwazunku Stephen is cooperating with investigators and providing useful information to assist in the ongoing investigation. Authorities emphasized that all individuals connected to the crime will be apprehended and brought to justice.

The police have assured the public that investigations are ongoing and are urging residents to remain vigilant. The arrests underscore the command’s commitment to tackling violent crimes and ensuring the safety of citizens in Ebonyi State.
