Arteta Urges Max Dowman to Focus Beyond Everton Heroics

Date:

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has told 16-year-old Max Dowman to move on from his record-breaking performance against Everton, describing the game as “irrelevant” in the context of his development. Dowman became the youngest player ever to score in the Premier League after coming on as a substitute in Arsenal’s 2-0 victory.

In that match, Dowman not only scored but also set up the first goal for Viktor Gyokeres, before running the full length of the field to score Arsenal’s second. His performance drew widespread attention for both his skill and composure at such a young age.

Despite praising his extraordinary debut, Arteta emphasized that the young forward must focus on his next opportunities rather than dwelling on past success. “He did something very special in a rare moment,” Arteta said.

The manager indicated that Dowman could see more first-team opportunities in the future, highlighting Arsenal’s commitment to nurturing young talent while maintaining team performance.

Arteta concluded that while the Everton match was historic for Dowman, what matters now is his continued growth and contributions. “What he did a few days ago is not important anymore. It’s about what happens next,” he stated.
