Atiku Accuses Tinubu, APC of Panic Over ADC Momentum Ahead of 2027 Poll

Date:

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has alleged that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the ruling All Progressives Congress are uneasy over what he described as the rising political momentum of the opposition African Democratic Congress ahead of the 2027 presidential election.

In a statement issued Tuesday by his spokesperson, Phrank Shaibu, Atiku said the alleged anxiety within the ruling party stems from his emergence as “the center of gravity in the unfolding 2027 political equation.”

He also raised concerns about what he described as coordinated disinformation campaigns aimed at weakening the growing influence of the ADC and undermining opposition alignment ahead of the next general election cycle.

According to the statement, reports suggesting that Atiku is planning to retire from politics are false and part of efforts to disrupt what he called a widening coalition of political interests converging around his leadership.

Shaibu argued that the increasing political attention around Atiku reflects shifting alliances and early signals of possible realignments ahead of 2027, insisting that attempts to portray the development as insignificant were misleading.

He urged Atiku’s supporters, members of the ADC, and other Nigerians to disregard what he described as propaganda and remain committed to what he termed a collective mission to rebuild the country.

The statement follows the recent defection of former Kano State governor Rabiu Kwankwaso to the ADC, a move widely seen as part of ongoing opposition efforts to strengthen political alliances ahead of the 2027 presidential contest.
