Fresh Bandit Attack Hits Kwara Community

Date:

Tension has gripped Idofin Odo Ashe in Oke-Ero Local Government Area after suspected bandits stormed the community on Thursday evening, firing sporadically and forcing residents to flee for safety. Locals said the attackers arrived in large numbers and shot indiscriminately, creating panic as families abandoned their homes to escape possible abductions.

Residents described chaotic scenes as people ran in different directions while the armed men reportedly took control of parts of the community. Sources said the attackers appeared to be targeting victims for kidnapping, deepening fear among villagers already struggling with repeated security threats.

The latest incident is part of a series of persistent attacks that have worsened insecurity in the area, making normal life difficult for residents. Community members said essential services have been severely affected, with Government Secondary School Idofin and three primary schools reportedly shut for about five months due to safety concerns.

Frustration over the deteriorating situation previously led residents—including elderly women and youths—to stage protests, demanding urgent intervention from the Kwara State Government and security agencies. Protesters carried placards highlighting killings, kidnappings and daily fear in the community.

During the protest, residents warned that continued attacks were forcing families to relocate, gradually emptying the town. Community members appealed for immediate security deployment, stressing that without urgent action, Idofin Odo Ashe risks becoming completely deserted
