NYSC Member Reportedly Killed in Abuja Crossfire Incident

Date:

A serving National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) member, Abdulsamad Jamiu, has died after being caught in a crossfire during an armed robbery incident in the Dei-Dei area of Abuja.

The Nigerian Army said the incident occurred in the early hours of April 25, 2026, at Shagari Estate, when troops of the Guards Brigade Quick Response Group responded to a distress call about an ongoing robbery attack.

According to the Army, the soldiers, who were on routine night patrol, engaged fleeing suspects in a gun duel after arriving at the scene, resulting in an exchange of fire between troops and the armed robbers.

During the operation, Abdulsamad Jamiu was caught in the crossfire and sustained fatal injuries, despite efforts by the troops to secure the area and provide assistance.

The Guards Brigade expressed condolences to his family and the NYSC, confirmed that an investigation has begun into the incident, and stated that his remains have been deposited at Kubwa General Hospital.
