Students of Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria, were seen celebrating on campus following the disbursement of their tuition fees and long-awaited upkeep allowances through the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND).
In a viral video shared on Tuesday by presidential aide Bayo Onanuga via his official X (formerly Twitter) account, students were seen dancing and chanting in jubilation. The celebration appeared spontaneous, reflecting widespread relief and excitement among beneficiaries.
“ABU students celebrating payment of their fees and receiving their upkeep from NELFUND,” Onanuga wrote in the post accompanying the video.
The payment marks one of the first widely observed rollouts of the federal student loan scheme, aimed at reducing financial barriers to tertiary education across Nigeria.
