Tension gripped Bomadi, headquarters of Bomadi Local Government Area, after yet-to-be-identified gunmen abducted an Army officer, Lt.-Col. Josiah, from his military lodge around 2 a.m. on Sunday.
Eyewitnesses reported that the gunmen fired sporadic gunshots to scare residents before ransacking the officer’s lodge, seizing phones, and forcibly taking him away in a vehicle. Blood was reportedly left at the scene. The officer had returned to his lodge after attending a wedding in the neighbouring Kpakiama community over the weekend.
Joint teams of soldiers and vigilantes from the Bomadi Division of the military Joint Task Force (JTF) are conducting a frantic search in Bomadi and surrounding communities. The vehicle used in the abduction was later found abandoned along the Tuomo-Ogbobagbene-Tamigbe-Torugbene-Ojobo road and has been taken to the JTF base in Bomadi-Overside.
Attempts to obtain comments from military authorities were unsuccessful at the time of filing. Residents remain fearful of possible spillover effects from the incident.
