Former Nigerian league title-winning coach Kennedy Boboye is in pole position to take over as the new head coach of Sunshine Stars following the sack of Edith Agoye on Monday.

Agoye and his assistants Akin Olowokere, Banjo Adepoju and Folorunsho Stephen were relieved of their duties after almost two years in charge of the Akure-based side, in the wake of their 1-0 loss against Kwara United during a match-day 19 game of the 2023/24 season in Ilorin on Sunday.

Ondo State Commissioner for Sports and Youth Development Bamidele Ologunloluwa told the newsmen that Agoye’s replacement will be made before the end of the two-week mid-season break.

He continue “Boboye is one of our favorite and we shall conclude as soon as possible. We are on a two-week break and we will make an announcement within the period,”

After leading the team to the NPFL Super 6 last season, Agoye and his technical crew have had a tough 2023/24, winning only five out of 19 games while they recorded seven draws and seven defeats as well.

Four of their draws have come at the Akure Township Stadium, leaving the fans annoyed.
