
Bayero University, Kano, says it has begun a manhunt for suspected phone snatchers who stabbed and killed a 300-level student, Umar Abdullahi Hafiz.
The university’s Director of Public Affairs, Lamara Garba, said in a Thursday statement that the attack occurred at the student’s residence in Dorayi, Kano metropolis. Arrangements have been made to transport Hafiz’s body to his hometown of Zaria, Kaduna State, for burial.
Vice-Chancellor Prof. Sagir Adamu Abbas pledged to work with security agencies to ensure the perpetrators are brought to justice. He urged calm within the university community and reaffirmed the institution’s commitment to student and staff safety.
Phone snatching has become increasingly rampant in Kano, with reports linking the crime to multiple fatal attacks on residents.
