The Federal Government has reaffirmed its commitment to transitioning to a fully paperless civil service by December 31, 2025. The Head of the Civil Service of the Federation (HCSOF), Mrs. Didi Esther Walson-Jack, made this known during an official visit to the Galaxy Backbone Limited headquarters in Abuja.
Walson-Jack revealed that over 34,000 civil servants across Nigeria have already been integrated into the “War Room” initiative facilitated by Galaxy Backbone. The platform supports the widespread deployment of GovMail to streamline and digitise the execution of government services nationwide.
She commended Galaxy Backbone’s fibre connectivity, which currently extends to 28 states, noting that the agency’s infrastructural development represents a significant step toward building Nigeria’s digital future.
During her tour, Walson-Jack was shown key ICT infrastructure at the National Shared Service Centre (NSSC), including the Network Operations Centre (NOC), Security Operations Centre (SOC), and the Uptime Institute Certified Tier III Data Centre. These facilities are designed to offer secure and scalable digital services for Nigeria’s public sector.
Accompanied by Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy, Mr. Adeladan Rafiu, and other senior officials, the HCSOF emphasized the importance of collaboration between government institutions and Galaxy Backbone to achieve a modern and efficient civil service.
“This visit has opened my eyes to the enormous potential and capacity that Galaxy Backbone brings to Nigeria’s digital journey,” Walson-Jack stated. “I now see GBB not just as an ICT agency, but as a strategic partner in our vision to build a modern, agile, and paperless civil service.”
She outlined key focus areas for partnership, including the full implementation of the 1Government Cloud to manage operations across Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs), the adoption of an Enterprise Content Management System (ECMS) to automate workflows and records, and the integration of the 1Government Cloud Academy with the Civil Service Academy to boost staff training and digital literacy.
In response, the Managing Director/CEO of Galaxy Backbone, Prof. Ibrahim Adeyanju, expressed appreciation for the visit, affirming the agency’s continued support for Nigeria’s digital transformation goals.
