Nigerian content creator and streamer Shank Comics has claimed that veteran comedians Bovi Ugboma and Bright Okpocha (Basketmouth) are wealthier than Afrobeats stars Asake and Wizkid. He made the statement during a recent livestream while discussing the financial habits of entertainers in Nigeria.
Shank argued that while musicians often showcase luxury through expensive cars and jewellery, comedians focus more on long-term investments and wealth preservation. “I feel like comedy money is more. I can swear to God, Bovi and Basketmouth are richer than Asake,” he said.
He highlighted Bovi’s preference for modest vehicles as a reflection of his financial mindset rather than a lack of resources. “Bovi doesn’t just like cars. If he sees a Lexus, he’s okay. All those Ferraris and high speed on the express, Bovi doesn’t care,” Shank added.
The content creator also suggested that visible displays of wealth in the music industry may not accurately represent actual financial standing. His comments have sparked online discussions comparing the earning power of comedians and musicians.
Despite the remarks, neither Bovi nor Basketmouth has responded publicly, and the musicians mentioned have remained silent on the comparison. Observers note that Nigeria’s comedy industry has grown significantly, boosted by brand deals, international shows, and digital monetisation.
