Delta Police Arrest Suspected Interstate Kidnapper, Recover Arms

Date:

The Delta State Police Command has arrested a suspected interstate kidnapper, Abubakar Mohammed, following intelligence-led operations across several states in the South-South region.

The arrest was confirmed by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, in a statement issued on behalf of the Commissioner of Police, Aina Adesola.

According to the police, the suspect is believed to be part of a notorious kidnapping and armed robbery syndicate operating in Delta, Bayelsa, and Rivers states. Acting on credible intelligence, operatives of the Commissioner of Police Special Assignment Team (CP-SAT) launched sustained operations to dismantle the network.

The operation led to Mohammed’s arrest in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, on December 29, 2025. During interrogation, the suspect reportedly provided information that led officers to a concealed bush location along Tobia Village near the Amasoma area of Airport Road in Bayelsa State.

At the site, police recovered an AK-47 rifle, 76 rounds of live ammunition, and two AK-47 magazines, which were buried and wrapped in a sack.

Further investigation on January 2, 2026, led operatives to another arms cache hidden in the Uvwiamuge Forest along the Ughelli–Warri axis. Items recovered included a K2 rifle, 49 rounds of live ammunition, three K2 magazines, a pump-action gun, and 32 cartridges.

The suspect remains in police custody as investigations continue.
