Ebenebe Town Union in Awka North Local Goverment Area of Anambra State has set a committee to oversee security in the community and also attend to the need of the injured and hospitalized victims of gruesome killings in the town last weekend.

The Town Union president, Hon Paul Nnatuanya stated this after a meeting of Ebenebe Igwe in council and the town union on Wednesday.

“It is with a heavy heart and a deep sense of sorrow that I rise to address the good people of Ebenebe community on the barbaric, gruesome and unwarranted invasion, attack and wanton killing of innocent, hapless and defenceless mourners during the occasion of the burial of a son of Ebenebe community.

“I make this address as a considered obligation as the President General of the community and in appreciation of the enormous concerns expressed and still being expressed by the good and concerned people of our dear hitherto peaceful community.

“The news of the sad incident of the mindless killing that took place at a funeral venue of late Mr Ozo Joseph Chukwuka at Umuogbuefi village Ebenebe by yet to be identified merchants of death came to me as a rude shock and I am yet to recover from it. In that state of utter confusion, so many calls and visits from many quarters, including Ndi Ebenebe at home and in diaspora again increased the tension within and without.

“As at today, we have recorded about 15 deaths arising from the incident with many still in critical conditions in the hospital in spite of the efforts of the community and doctors so far.

“This address becomes pertinent, not as a publicity show but a wake -up call on the good and concerned people of our dear community and elsewhere on the critical needs of the wounded and hospitalized. These people are in need of urgent intervention for survival and you and I are expected to make it happen.

“The security of Anambra state has remained a sore taste in recent times. Communities, including Ebenebe, have remained on the receiving end of the daredevils and unknown gunmen. It is therefore imperative that efforts are united towards strengthening our community security watch. My government has made tremendous efforts in this regards except for some major drawback occasioned by inter-village squabbles. This is the time to rise or we fall together.

“Today, the Ebenebe Igwe-in-council and the town union executive met to review the situation of last weekend. This led to the constitution of a committee that will oversee the hospital processes and the community security. The committee is led by Hon. James Ilonwa as chairman and Comrade JohnBosco Anaracha as secretary.” Hon Nnatuanya stressed.

He reassured the people of the sleepy community that efforts are in top gear by the security agencies to apprehend and bring to justice the perpetrators of the heinous carnage in Ebenebe community even as he urged everyone to remain calm, remain law abiding and go about their normal businesses.
