Federal Government Declares Public Holidays for Eid Festival

The Federal Government has declared Thursday, March 19, and Friday, March 20, 2026, as public holidays to mark the celebration of Eid-il-Fitr, which signals the end of the Islamic holy month of Ramadan.

The announcement was made by Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, who extended warm greetings and congratulations to Muslim faithful on completing the month of fasting and reflection.

In a statement issued through the ministry’s Permanent Secretary, Magdalene Ajani, the minister urged Muslims to uphold the values of love, generosity, peace, tolerance, and sacrifice emphasized during Ramadan.

The minister also called on all Nigerians to use the festive period to pray for continued peace, unity, and national prosperity, encouraging responsible celebration and acts of kindness toward the less privileged.

The statement reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to promoting national unity and peaceful coexistence among all citizens while wishing Muslim communities a joyful and safe Eid-il-Fitr celebration.
