At last, First Bank of Nigeria (FBN) Holdings Plc has received approval to change the company’s name to First Holdco Plc.
The company’s shareholders approved the name change at the 12th Annual General Meeting (AGM), held virtually on Thursday, November 14, 2024.
In a statement released over the weekend, Adewale Arogundade, the company’s Secretary, confirmed that the resolution extends to all by issuing FBN Holdings’ subsidiaries.
According to the company, the change will be extended to all subsidiaries.
The approved changes include shifting the company’s legal name from FBN Holdings Plc to First Holdco Plc and its brand name to FirstHoldco.
The statement from First Bank reads: “That there should be a change of the legal and brand names of the company from FBN Holdings Plc and FBN Holdings to First Holdco Plc and FirstHoldco, respectively.
“That the change of legal and brand names should be extended to the subsidiaries of FBN Holdings Plc “That the directors be and are hereby authorised to perform all such other acts and do all such other things as may be necessary to give effect to the above resolutions, including, without limitation, complying with the directives.”
After several decades of being used to the popular FirstBank, the new FirstHoldco nomenclature sounds somewhat cumbersome and awkward.

Please, the changing from first bank of Nigeria to first holdco may cause many to withdraw their money from the account and open another new bank account. Indeed, you have to rethink and retrieve again for costumer to enjoying not for your personal opinion.

First observation: NATIONAL ELECTRICITY POWER AUTHOURITY (NEPA) changed to POWER HOLDING CORPORATION NIGERIA LIMITED (PHCN).
Then this: FIRST BANK OF NIGERIA PLC (FBN PLC) now changed to FIRSTHOLDco.
It’s obvious that there’s a naive mentality in our Leadership and political sector about this “HOLDINGS” of a thing; they clearly backwards in perspective thinking. FirstHoldco sounds more of a local thrive and loan society other than a bank.
There must be something cooking in the international banking community for them to have done this, but unfortunately, they lost it! The name does not depict international aura at all….this is very laughable
Honestly , I’m very disappointed with the system of Nigerian Government Policies. It’s well known that this bank was before named: First European Bank, later it as handed over to our government and it became First Bank Of Nigeria Holdings PLC. And this Name became a household name in the Nigerian and International 🏦 banking Industry. Today it was changing its name again. To me there is a change in the board of directors, trustees and management of the Bank in general. Which means that the bank has merged with another investors company.First customers will be apprehensive and worried about the change in place.
