Ganduje Back From London Ahead of Yusuf Defection

Date:

KANO — Former National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, has returned to Nigeria from London ahead of the anticipated defection of Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, to the ruling party.

In a statement issued by his Chief of Staff, Muhammad Garba, Ganduje arrived in Abuja aboard a British Airways flight at about 5:30 a.m. on Monday. He is expected to proceed to Kano later in the day to begin a series of key political engagements.

According to the statement, the former Kano governor will participate in the APC’s ongoing electronic registration of members, a programme he initiated during his tenure as the party’s national chairman.

Ganduje is also expected to play a leading role in activities surrounding the planned formal reception of Governor Yusuf, who is set to defect from the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) to the APC.

The development comes amid a significant political realignment in Kano State, following Yusuf’s resignation from the NNPP and the defection of several elected officials to the APC.

Ganduje had travelled to London to attend the graduation ceremony of his daughter, Fatima, at King’s College London.

Fatima, who is married to Idris Ajimobi, son of the late former Oyo State Governor, Abiola Ajimobi, graduated on Thursday with a Master’s degree from the institution.

Her graduation preceded Ganduje’s return to Nigeria, which now coincides with unfolding political developments in Kano.
