The Jigawa State Consumer Protection Committee (CPC) has warned farmers to be vigilant against fraudsters selling fake fertilizers in local markets.
In a press statement issued to DAILY POST, CPC Chairman Umar Alhaji Bala disclosed that the committee had received reports of counterfeit fertilizers circulating in the state, posing a threat to food production and security.
In response, the committee launched operations in Babura and Sara markets, leading to the seizure of several bags of suspected fake fertilizers. Bala said six unbranded bags without NAFDAC numbers were confiscated in Babura, while 40 more were seized in Sara.
Additionally, the committee intercepted a milk powder product known as “non-dairy creamer” in Mallam Madori, which reportedly causes stomach upset.
Those apprehended in connection with the fake products have been handed over to the police and Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps for investigation and prosecution.
