The Jigawa State Police Command has announced a series of successful operations, including the recovery of a stolen vehicle, the arrest of a suspected cable vandal, and the apprehension of a drug suspect, as part of its intensified efforts to tackle crime across the state.

In a statement released on Sunday in Dutse, the state capital, Police Public Relations Officer, SP Shi’isu Adam, said operatives recovered a stolen Kia Sorento (registration number GWL 225 BB) that was taken from the Gugungu Market in Taura Local Government Area on July 14, 2025.

“The police deployed detectives from Gujungu Division’s Surveillance Unit, who carried out an intelligence-driven operation. The vehicle was traced and intercepted at Kanya Babba village in Babura Local Government Area,” the statement read. The suspects reportedly fled the scene upon sensing the police presence, while the vehicle was later released to its rightful owner after verification.

In a separate operation on July 15, police arrested a suspected cable vandal, 25-year-old Abubakar Sadi of Kofar Waika, Kano State. The suspect was apprehended at the scene while four accomplices fled into the bush. A vehicle used for the illegal activity was also recovered.

A preliminary investigation indicated that all suspects involved in the cable vandalism are from Kano State.

The police also reported a crackdown on drug trafficking. On July 19, detectives from ‘B’ Division Hadejia and Shuwarin Division raided known black spots and hideouts, arresting a suspect, Isah Mohd. Items recovered included rubber solution, D5 tablets, Exol tablets, Tramadol, and suspected Indian hemp.

SP Adam confirmed that investigations are ongoing, and the suspects will be charged upon completion of the process. He added that efforts were underway to apprehend others who fled during the raids.

The Commissioner of Police in Jigawa State, Muhammad Dahiru, commended the officers involved and reaffirmed the command’s resolve to ensure the safety and security of all residents.
