JUST IN….. Resident Doctors Commence Indefinite Strike
The Nigerian Association of Resident Doctors, (NARD), has declared a total and indefinite strike action across the nation.
President of the association, Dr Orji Emeka Innocent, said the strike action is in furtherance of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) that the National Executive Council, (NEC) of NARD signed with the Federal Government on May 19 following a five-day warning strike embarked upon by the association on May 17.
It was gathered that the NARD is praying for the immediate payment of the 2023 MRTF; immediate release of the circular on one-for-one replacement; and payment of skipping arrears.
NARD also prayed for an upward review of CONMESS in line with full salary restoration to the 2014 value of CONMESS; payment of the arrears of consequential adjustment of minimum to the omitted doctors; as well as the reversal of the downgrading of the membership certificate by MDCN.
The body also prayed for the payment of MRTF, new hazard allowance, skipping and implementation of corrected CONMESS in State Tertiary Health Institutions; and payment of omitted hazard allowance arrears before the indefinite strike action can be called off.
ROYAL NEWS reports that NARD had embarked on an industrial action after the two-week ultimatum issued to the Federal Government on April 29 expired on May 13 without the issues being addressed o the ground of meeting its demands or risk industrial action in the health sector.
