NBA Condemns Jos Violence, Demands Immediate Security Measuresb

Date:

The Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) has condemned the recent killings in Jos, Plateau State, describing the attack as a disturbing reflection of Nigeria’s worsening insecurity. The association highlighted that the violence targeted communities engaged in lawful activities and occurred on a religious day, amplifying its impact on families observing Palm Sunday.

In a statement, the NBA called on security agencies to identify, apprehend, and prosecute those responsible for the killings. It urged federal and state authorities to strengthen security presence in vulnerable communities, improve intelligence gathering, and implement proactive measures to prevent further attacks.

The association extended condolences to the families of the victims and expressed solidarity with the people and government of Plateau State. It emphasised that victims and affected communities deserve justice, support, and reassurance that their suffering will not be ignored.

Addressing broader concerns, the NBA highlighted recurring attacks across the country, noting the constitutional obligation to protect life under the 1999 Constitution. It warned that ongoing insecurity undermines public confidence, national cohesion, and the rule of law.

The NBA stressed that every Nigerian, regardless of ethnicity, religion, or location, has an inviolable right to life and security. It called for decisive action to ensure that these rights are protected and to prevent further erosion of trust in government institutions.
